The Fed’s Latest Remarks

September 9, 2022 - 1 MINUTE READ

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell reinstated on Thursday that the central bank is still “strongly committed” to taming inflation. Many believe they will raise rates again at this month’s meeting, targeting to bring inflation down to the 2% mark.1 The consensus seems to be a rate hike of between 50 and 75 basis points this time around. Data showed the number of Americans filing for unemployment fell last week to a three-month low.1 This is a sign the labor market continues to be strong in 2022.

The next meeting for the Fed is set to be on September 20-21st, with the Chicago Fed President Charles Evans recently quoted as saying reining in inflation is “job one”. 1
